Can I tell you about someone I met in a small Romanian village?
Her name was Domnica. Whenever our volunteers gathered with the kids, she was almost always nearby. Not in the middle of things—just quietly watching from the edges. You could tell life hadn’t been easy for her. Poverty had left its marks. But she always had this warm, steady smile.
One day we decided to stop and talk with her. She was curious about why we were there and what we were teaching the children. When we mentioned that we were sharing about Jesus, her eyes lit up and the questions started coming.
Before long, we found ourselves sitting in her small home, continuing the conversation. As we talked, something became clear that completely surprised us—Domnica, now in her 80s, was hearing the message of Jesus for the very first time.
That day, she chose to follow Him.
It was one of those moments that stays with you. Because if we had assumed she already knew… or figured she wasn’t interested… we might never have stopped to talk.
A few months later, Domnica passed away. But that simple conversation changed everything for her.
Her story reminds me how easy it is to overlook the quiet people standing on the edges. Sometimes those are the very people who are most ready to hear the hope of the Gospel.
And it’s also a reminder of something beautiful: when we take the time to notice someone, listen to their story, and share the love of Christ, God can do far more than we ever expect. Sometimes, a simple conversation can change eternity.
