A History of Christmas with RTC in Romania

I want to share the rich and heartfelt history of Christmas with Remember the Children in Romania—a journey that began in the late 1990s through our deep partnership with Caminul Felix Children’s Homes.

Our mission started with a simple goal: to find sponsors for each of the 100 children in their care so we could provide new outfits, essential toiletries, and special treats that would brighten their Christmas. Every year, we packed 75-pound army duffel bags filled with carefully chosen gifts and traveled to Romania, eagerly anticipating the celebration that awaited.

Over the years, this outreach expanded across Romania—into villages, orphanages, schools, and communities where Christmas hope was needed most. Some of my favorite memories include delivering Christmas trees to orphanages and decorating them with the children, filling the rooms with joy and wonder.

One of the most impactful seasons came during three years when we served warm Christmas meals at a landfill to families and individuals living there. Each meal was a reminder of dignity, compassion, and God’s love. Another unforgettable moment was meeting a mother and her young children living in a small shack near the Romanian border; seeing their needs, we were able to respond quickly and offer hope in a desperate situation.

Through all these years, our Christmas project has stayed rooted in one mission: to spread hope and remind every person that they are not forgotten. I am deeply grateful for the moments spent with orphans, struggling families, and communities longing to hear the true message of Christmas. And I am especially thankful for partners like you who help carry the love and hope of Christ to so many.

Now celebrating 26 years of Christmas outreach within our 30-year ministry journey, this project remains close to my heart—a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. All because of Jesus.
