Winter 2017

Welcome 2017! Another new year and I am totally amazed at how fast 2016 flew by. I am coming up on my first anniversary with Remember the Children and am thrilled at all the blessings this ministry has received. We added a brand-new project in the summer of last year in Santandrei. In addition, our other programs continue to grow and serve the children. We know have over 190 fully engaged sponsors representing 237 child sponsorships. On behalf of the board and staff of RtC I can only say: “THANK YOU!” Without you, our sponsors, we would not be making the difference we are with the children. As I begin to look forward I can only see exciting times coming. Within the next month or two we will be adding (2) new projects to our programs. The first one will be the addition of the other Roma/gypsy village in Santandrei. The second project will be a new program in Tetchea that will be overseen by our partners Dorin and Dorinda Popa.

Project Updates:

House of Hope: The children are doing amazingly well. Our Christmas teams made several visits there to celebrate birthdays, Christmas and to work on some sponsor letters with the kids. (Look for them to be coming sometime soon). Also, all the letters and gifts that you sent were delivered. I may not look like Santa but I felt like it.

Santandrei:  Danny is doing great work in both villages. With our sponsorship program and continuing visits relationships are forming and we are seeing changes. Nelu, the head of the one village, recently accepted Christ. Praises for that! Part of your sponsorship dollars went to make sure each child in the program had a winter coat. Remember part of sponsorship is making sure a child’s basic needs are being met.

Ciumeghiu:  The afterschool program continues to grow. Average attendance is around 70 children weekly which is encouraging. One interesting fact is that David offered an incentive for the children this Fall. Based on attendance, memory work and overall engagement the children could earn shopping bucks. In December, the overall top earners were invited on a shopping trip. There they could purchase anything they wanted but chose to invest in new clothes, boots and other important things. They are understanding that “needs” are more important than “wants. Sometimes we all need a lesson in this.

Final Thoughts:

I continually pray for all the children in our programs and for those yet to come. I also encourage you to do so. Lives are being changed and impacted. We are making a difference! Starting with this Connection I am going to move to sending it out 4 times a year on a seasonal basis. It is my hope that by doing this we can be more informative. However, if you ever have a question or concern do not hesitate to reach out to me. Keep Andy in prayer as he shortly heads over to Romania for a month to work with some church planting.

October 2016

As I write this a chill is in the air and we have turned the heat on. Gone are the days where the sun never seemed to set. Yes, it is officially Fall which can only mean one thing- our Christmas trips to deliver the Boxes of Hope are right around the corner. In fact, the first of our teams will be leaving in just about a month. This year over 40 people will be journeying to Romania to participate in our ministry. Please keep the trips and the participants in your prayers.

Project Updates:

House of Hope: Serena Dalton along with Peter Coggan and Russell Dalton just completed touring for the benefit of House of Hope. Fourteen days through eleven states is quite the journey but they basically hit it “out of the park”. Their concerts were well received and they raised close to $15,000 and we had 15 new sponsors come on board. Praise God! Please continue to keep the children at House of Hope in prayer. Your support is making a difference!

Santandrei:  This project has already taken off. Less than three months and we already have ten engaged sponsors. Thank You!  Danny is working hard to make a difference in both of the villages. Part of your sponsorship money went to buying school supplies. The children were excited to have the opportunity to go to school and to have supplies that otherwise would have been a hardship to purchase. One of the children, Robert, helped Danny get the schools lists together and distribute the supplies. Already he is becoming a leader in his community. This is how sponsorship works and makes a difference.

Ciumeghiu:  The afterschool program is in full swing after transitioning from a summer/sports theme. They are currently averaging over 50 children per session and we are working with David on getting the new children available for sponsorship. Lessons are being taught and they are meeting currently on Mondays, Fridays and now even Sunday after church. They have also started a Soccer Academy to more fully engage the older children. This developed from the success of the sports program held this summer. The program is growing so rapidly that they had to purchase some new chairs and materials. Pray for the continued success of this program.

Final Thoughts:

We are continuing to grow! After hitting a milestone back in August we now have over 215 children in our sponsorship program representing over 180 sponsors in 3 different projects. This is amazing and God is at work in each of those projects. We look forward to bringing the community of Tetchea online next year. Keep following us on Facebook and check out our webpage. They are both great ways to keep up with our overall ministry. Have a great Thanksgiving. I am thankful for each of you and your hearts for the children.

August 2016

As we begin to wind down on Summer things are beginning to heat up for Remember the Children and our Sponsorship program. Just this week we reached a major milestone with over 200 hundred active sponsors. What an amazing blessing! Lives are being changed in Satu Mare, Chimeghiu, and Santandrei. You all are making a difference and for that I can only say “THANKS!” Welcome to those that have joined us! Last month I had an opportunity to visit each of our programs and am excited to share some news.

Project Updates:

HOH Backpacks[1] copy.jpg

House of Hope: The children are doing awesome. They loved the backpacks and I am sure are getting excited about school.  We had the opportunity to sit down and update profile pictures and get letters written. If you are a sponsor with House of Hope keep an eye out for a letter arriving in your mailbox.  As a note we needed to update the profile pictures as the children are getting older.

So-if you would like an updated photograph of your sponsored child please send me an email and I will forward you one back that you can print out.

Santandrei: We opened up this program on July 5th and already have 7 sponsors connected with their children. Our partner Danny is fully on board and is engaging the children right now with weekly visits and VBS type programming. My group spent about 3 days in the villages and the children were completely engaged with us. Keep this program in prayer as it grows.

Ciumeghiu:  The afterschool program continues to grow. Average attendance is around 25-30 children for each session. Prayers are requested as they transition from the summer program to the traditional back to school programming. We only had an afternoon here but attendance was good and the kids were very active with program.

Letter and Gift Policy:

After meeting with our partners in Romania we have established the following letter and gift policy. We wanted to establish something that was fair for everyone involved. Remember not all children get letters or gifts from their sponsors so we wanted to keep that in mind.

We will take over small items such as coloring books, stickers, hair ribbons, paper crafts, greeting cards, postcards and pictures. All gift items must fit flatly within a quart sized plastic bag labeled with who it goes to and who it is from. Letters are always welcome and should be sent to the office (same for gifts) All items will go over when one of us travels there next which is typically once a quarter. You can expect letters from your sponsored child at least 2-3 times a year.

If you want to do a more substantial gift is should be done on the website in a monetary form. You would click the donate button enter the amount. Under “Designation” put either annual gift or birthday gift and in the “Notes” you would put the childs name. The guideline on these gifts is 1x a year with a maximum amount of $25-$50 dollars. Our partner over there would then buy an appropriate gift with the child and hopefully send me a picture. Christmas gifts will be the Boxes of Hope that we deliver to all of the children.

Final Thoughts:

You are important Advocates for our ministry and our Sponsorship programs. You see the difference that you are making and I encourage you to reach out to others and tell them about our work in Romania. Remember our website is a valuable tool. You can direct others to visit the site or to even sponsor a child also. We have several profiles onsite for each project. It is as easy as “click and sponsor”.

In October Sarena Dalton will again be touring on behalf of our ministry. You won’t want to miss this as we are embarking on a new project with House of Hope. Please keep her tour in prayer. Also please pray for the community of Tetchea. This will be our next sponsorship opportunity (Early 2017) and we want God’s hand involved as we develop this.

Blessings and Thanks!

June 2016

Welcome to our second newsletter update! Without valuable sponsors like you RtC would not be capable of providing the love and hope that you offer through your partnership. I thank each of you for taking Colossians 3:12 to heart and being a part of these children's lives.

Things are really beginning to happen with our Sponsorship program. Just over the past two months we have added 10 new sponsors. Welcome to those that have joined us! Below I will provide you with some of the specific project updates as well as some exciting news about things to come. In the mean time if you ever have any questions or concerns please reach out to me. I am here to assist you in making your sponsorship valuable to both you and your sponsored child.

Project Updates:

House of Hope:

All of the children are doing well. Thank you for your continuing prayers for all of the children, Mihai, and Dana. I know how hard it was just trying to raise 2 daughters so I can imagine how this is magnified 25x. Prayers are always welcomed.

Thank you to all who donated extras funds the past few months so we could purchase school backpacks for the children and also provide a summer camp experience. You are a blessing.

Santandrei:

We are preparing ground for the new building that we are building for the Roma/gypsy villages. This is the next project to come online. I am currently working on the child profiles and shortly this will be open for sponsorships. Danny is already meeting with the children. He is requesting prayer for the summer program. Several teams will be visiting there this summer and will be doing outreach programs~pray that relationships continue to grow.

Ciumeghiu:

The afterschool program continues to grow. Average attendance is around 25-30 children for each session. Prayers are requested as they transition from a school type program to a summer type curriculum. Pray the children stay engaged and interested. They have also started a sports type program in order to reach out more to the teens and plant some seeds.

Final Thoughts:

I am going over to Romania July 13th-23rd to meet with our partners and fine tune some of policies and plans. I am looking forward to this time over there. I will be taking over those backpacks & some gifts that have been sent to the office. I will try to capture some of those special moments for sponsors. I am asking at this point that we place a hold on sending gifts until I can get a concrete policy in place. I am looking at ways to make this fair for all children involved and not just those sponsored. Letters are always welcome. Please send them here to my attention at the RtC office. If you want me to take some over in July please forward them to the office by no later than July 10th.

Remember our website is a valuable tool. You can direct others to the site to sponsor a child also. We have several profiles onsite for each project. It is as easy as "click and sponsor".

Some exciting news is coming up. In August we will be having two Anniversary celebrations for RtC's 20th anniversary. One is in Indiana and one will be in Maryland. Invites will be coming out, you all are welcome and you can RSVP right online at our website.

Also this Fall Sarena Dalton will again be touring on behalf of our ministry. You won't want to miss this as we are embarking on a new project with House of Hope.

Blessings and Thanks!
